Jay Grossman, L.A.’s Celebrity Dentist, Warns Patients of Colgate Toothpaste Ingredients

Dr. Jay Grossman, Celebrity Dentist

“The efficacy of its possible antimicrobial properties may be outweighed by its possible role in disrupting hormonal development.” – Dr. Jay Grossman

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, January 29, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — For Dr. Jay Grossman and his team at Concierge Dentistry, the mission is to deliver the finest dental care available. Using state-of-the-art dental technology, they provide modern imaging capabilities that allow their patients to clearly see the reasons for procedures and the intended results. They recognize that patients are individuals with different goals and needs, and they strive to provide a soothing and educational environment where extraordinary results are realized. However, the team is now warning against a product that could possibly be extremely detrimental to their patients’ health.

Recently, the FDA banned the anti-bacterial chemical “Triclosan” from soap. However, Dr. Grossman is adamant that the public isn’t quite safe yet. The chemical can still be found in many brands of toothpaste still sold on shelves today. The reasoning? Colgate Total convinced the FDA that the benefit of Triclosan in toothpaste outweighs any risks involved with using the product.

In an interview, Andrea Fisher, an FDA spokeswoman, said that “Triclosan has demonstrated to be an effective component in reducing plaque and gingivitis.” This information was discovered in a Colgate study conducted all the way back in 1997. Dr. Grossman disagrees with this assessment.

“It is in my opinion,” said Dr. Grossman, “that the efficacy of its possible antimicrobial properties may be outweighed by its possible role in disrupting hormonal development. Although the Colgate study sites a significant reduction in gingivitis, independent reviews, such as those done by the Cochrane group, state that the benefits may not be clinically significant.” Meanwhile, the potential health concerns of Triclosan have caused the FDA to list it as a “CEC,” a contaminant of emerging concern.

“As your dentist," Dr. Grossman continues, “I must state that my concern for a product that has such a classification, and until more research is done, you may want to think twice about using any products that contain Triclosan.”

No matter what the FDA rules, Dr. Grossman plans on always looking out for his patients’ health, and doing what he can to encourage healthy practices at Concierge. He is one of the few dental practitioners in the Brentwood area to use advanced dental laser technology for more comfortable dental care. And he’s also one of the very few Invisalign Elite Preferred Providers in the world. “We are happy to meet with you, offer you solutions and help you build the smile you have always wanted,” Dr. Grossman concludes.

Process Pigging Specialist HPS Takes On New Staff as Part of Company's Expansion Plans

HPS Product Recovery Solutions are hiring a Design Engineer and Production Technician to meet its ambitious growth plans

HPS are an ambitious company with a robust expansion strategy and we need people who will help to accelerate our growth”

— Gilbert Murphy

NOTTINGHAM, NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM, January 24, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Leading process pigging specialist, HPS Product Recovery Solutions, are currently recruiting for two new job roles at their head office in Nottingham, UK.

The company, that counts major firms including Unilever, P&G and Coca-Cola among its clients, is looking to fill the roles of Designer Engineer and Production Technician.

The move is part of a drive by the company to meet its ambitious growth plans, as well as meeting an increasing worldwide demand for the company’s products. These include hygienic product recovery (pigging) systems and liquid transfer solutions.

Gilbert Murphy, CEO of HPS said,

“HPS are an ambitious company with a robust expansion strategy and we need people who will help to accelerate our growth”

“Demand for our technologies is gathering greater and greater momentum as companies that process liquids realise the benefits that pigging can bring to their processing operations”.

Because pigging saves so much product, reduces water consumption and the use of cleaning chemicals, it has a positive impact on the environment. At the same time, it increases product yields, reduces downtime and improves efficiency, which gives HPS customers high ROI and increased profits. And that’s only some of the benefits of pigging.

HPS were established in 1995, initially operating from Nottingham’s Science and Technology Park. Over the years, they have achieved substantial growth and now have a global presence with offices in the UK, USA and Australia as well as a network of agents and partners throughout the world.

The company is the market leader in the niche technology ‘pigging’ that recovers product from pipelines, that would otherwise be sent to waste. They also specialise in custom-designed Automatrix and Rotomatrix liquid distribution solutions.

HPS are renowned for their high-quality leading-edge products as well as their dedication to customer care and innovation.

Their key markets are the food and drink, cosmetics and personal care, household products, chemicals, paint and pet food processing industries.

Gilbert Concludes,

“To service the demand for our products, we currently have some fantastic opportunities available for individuals interested in working for a market leading company in the engineering sector”

“HPS’s focus on innovation, training and development will ensure these new recruits have the depth and breadth of skills and the support they need to help HPS achieve its growth targets”.

Safer Mining Practices Reduce Hazardous Exposures in Small-scale Mining in Nigeria

Safer mining project reduces toxic lead exposures among artisanal small-scale miners in Niger State.

This effort was an extraordinary success in reducing these significant health risks and protecting children from lead poisoning.”

— Dr. Adolphe Fotso, Medical Coordinator, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Nigeria.

ABUJA, FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY, NIGERIA, January 11, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Abuja, January 11, 2019 – A pilot program to reduce lead poisoning in Nigerian gold mining communities has brought extraordinary improvements to an area where hundreds of children had died from lead poisoning according to a study published today. The study authors concluded that a two-year effort to introduce safer mining practices was effective at preventing deaths and reducing lead poisoning in highly exposed villages.

“Our pilot project demonstrated that low-cost dust control measures were effective at reducing average airborne lead exposures by 95 per cent,” said Perry Gottesfeld, Executive Director of Occupational Knowledge International (OK International) whose organization partnered with Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in this effort.

The safer mining project took place in the Shakira community in Niger State where high levels of lead are naturally present in the gold ore. The primary objective was to reduce lead exposures among artisanal small-scale miners and minimize take-home exposures.

“We worked cooperatively with miners to provide them with the information and tools to reduce their exposures to lead and silica dust. Together we showed that these efforts minimized contamination and helped save lives.” Gottesfeld said.

The organization demonstrated the effectiveness of reducing airborne lead levels by working with miners to convert dry operations into wet methods. Water spray misting was proven to be highly effective while minimizing water consumption. In addition to significant reductions in the airborne lead, the authors reported that these control measures reduced the smaller respirable silica dust by 80%.

Philip Aruna, Head of Mission in Nigeria for Doctors Without Borders said: “OK International has exceeded expectations in bringing an entire community together to prevent severe lead poisoning and by demonstrating significant reductions in lead exposures among miners.”

Gottesfeld noted that “Following our extensive outreach and training, these miners were motivated to take measures to reduce hazardous lead exposures and invested their own time and money to implement these protective measures.”

The authors of the Study “Reducing Lead and Silica Dust Exposures in Small-Scale Mining in Northern Nigeria” published in Annals of Work Exposures and Health noted that average lead exposures among ore processors before the implementation of safer practices were 19 times greater than the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) permissible limit for lead. (available online at https://doi.org/10.1093/annweh/wxy095)
In Nigeria and in most other African countries, there are no occupational limits for exposure for lead or silica dust.

Silica dust causes silicosis, lung cancer and is a significant risk factor for tuberculosis (TB). Lead causes severe neurological deficits and death among children in these communities, but even at low exposure levels is responsible for 674,000 deaths each year primarily due to cardiovascular disease.

There are an estimated 40 million informal small-scale miners working in at least 70 countries around the world. Although some programs have attempted to reduce mercury exposures in these communities, this is the first such intervention to demonstrate reductions in lead and silica dust exposures. The authors of the published article note that in mining communities lead and silica hazards pose a far greater risk to human health than the use of mercury.

Dr. Adolphe Fotso, Medical Coordinator for Nigeria with Doctors Without Borders, and an author on the paper said, “this effort was an extraordinary success in reducing these significant health risks and protecting children from lead poisoning.”

In addition to introducing wet methods, OK International focused on training miners to implement simple measures including handwashing, showering, setting up separate eating areas, and changing out of work clothing before going home at the end of the day. The study estimated that the overall cost for introducing these measures in this community was approximately $5,000 USD.

Drug-Free Youth Festival Educates Youth on the Dangers of Drugs While Having Fun

Adult helps kids take the Drug-Free Pledge at Seminar by Florida Chapter of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World

Drugs rob life of the sensations and joys which are the only reasons for living anyhow.”

— L. Ron Hubbard

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, January 10, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida Chapter is putting on its first Drug-Free Youth Festival on January 26th starting at 1:30pm at the Osceola Courtyard located at 201 N. Fort Harrison Ave in Clearwater, Florida.

Parents often worry about their child becoming involved and dependent on illegal drugs, however there are more chances of a teenager getting into trouble through legal drugs like alcohol. The Youth Festival will have live music, dancing, food, a scavenger hunt, fun games and activities, a photo station and more, so they can enjoy the party without drugs and learn about the harm they create to one’s mind and body.

“We want to show youth that they can have lots of fun being drug-free,” said Julieta Santagostino the President of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida Chapter. “And it is also important that they are educated on the dangers of drugs so they can stand up to peer pressure.”

Per a study done by Colombia University, seven out of ten teenagers have been offered an illegal drug.

“Unfortunately, a lot of parents don’t think it will be their kids, but in reality there is a 70% chance that it will be their child,” Santagostino said. “So it is just as important to educate the parents.”

Per the National Institute on Drug Abuse, teens whose parents talk to them about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs.

Youth and parents are invited to attend the complimentary Drug-Free Youth Festival on January 26th and have fun while learning important facts.

There will also be great raffle prizes!

To find out more about the event or to get free drug education materials from the Foundation for a Drug-Free World you can visit the Foundation for a Drug-Free World information center at 41 N. Marijuana is one of the most abused drugs in the world. Some people think that since it is legal in some places, it must be safe,”

— ulieta Santagostino, President of Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA, US, January 10, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — With the US having almost as many marijuana smokers as there are cigarette smokers, the Foundation for a Drug-Free World (FDFW) Florida Chapter has taken on the task of raising awareness on the effects of this drug with the Truth About Marijuana seminar held on the 2nd of January at their headquarters in downtown Clearwater.

Attendees included teenagers who had been curious about the drug and others who had previously tried the drug and regret it. FDFW Florida promotes that drug dealers and the innocent circulate that marijuana is “not really a drug”, but in actual fact contains some 400 chemicals, including THC (short for tetrahydrocannabinol) which creates mind-altering effects, and increases criminal behavior.

“Marijuana is one of the most abused drugs in the world. Some people think that since it is legal in some places, it must be safe,” said Julieta Santagostino, the President of the Foundation for a Drug-Free World Florida Chapter. “But your body doesn’t know a legal drug from an illegal drug. It only knows the effect the drug creates once you have taken it.”

In the “Truth About Marijuana”, one of the booklets disseminated by FDFW, the immediate effects of taking marijuana include rapid heart beat, disorientation, lack of physical coordination, often followed by depression or sleepiness. Some users suffer panic attacks or anxiety. Also, marijuana smoke contains 50% to 70% more cancer-causing substances than tobacco smoke and one cannabis joint could cause as much damage to the lungs as up to five regular cigarettes smoked one after another.

“Our passion is to bring out the true information about drugs to the youth, because they often don’t know the effects of these drugs or realize the consequences it can have on them physically and emotionally. We are dedicated to reaching the youth before the dealers do,” said Ms. Santagostino.

To get more information or a copy of the “Truth About Marijuana” informational booklet or documentary DVD on the dangers of drugs you can visit the Foundation for a Drug-Free World information center at 41 N. Two Marrone Bio Innovations products, MBI-110 Biofungicide and Haven Sunprotectant, approved for sale in Canada

Stargus (MBI-110) provides superior downy mildew and white mold control

Haven increase crop quality and yields

Two products will be available in time for the growing season

Marrone Bio Innovations (NASDAQ:MBII)

DAVIS, CA, USA, January 10, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Marrone Bio Innovations Inc. (NASDAQ: MBII) (MBI), an international leader in smart biopesticide and plant health solutions, today announced that two of its products have been approved for sale in Canada by the appropriate government agencies. MBI-110 Biofungicide, (marketed in the U.S. as Stargus(r) for specialty crops) was approved by the Pest Management Regulatory Authority (PMRA). Haven(r) Sunprotectant was approved by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).

According to Phillips McDougall, the Canadian pesticide market totaled $1.7 billion in 2016 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 2.3% to $1.9 billion in 2021. While market figures for the $2-3 billion global biostimulant market do not break out Canada, growth of biostimulants in Canada, which includes products like Haven, in Canada follows the growth trends of the rest of the world at a 10-12% CAGR.

The active ingredient in Stargus is a new strain of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, a bacterium isolated by MBI scientists from a soil sample in northern California. While this type of Bacillus is common in soil, and other biological products contain the same species, MBI’s discovery is unique in its high performance on downy mildews, white molds, Fusarium and Botrytis gray mold, which are particularly difficult to control with both biologicals and chemicals. The bacteria in Stargus work by colonizing plant root hairs, leaves and other plant surfaces, thereby preventing establishment of fungal and bacterial pathogens. The Stargus bacteria also produce natural compounds that inhibit bacterial and fungal growth and spore germination. Further, the bacteria trigger immune responses in the plant to ward off diseases and increase growth and yield, creating a healthier and stronger plant. In Canada, the approved label for Stargus is for the control or suppression of various diseases on cucurbits, legume vegetables, potatoes, grapevines, canola and sunflowers. MBI holds two U.S. patents on the novel strain in the biofungicide product.

The active ingredient in Haven is an extract derived from coconut. Use of Haven helps treated plants maintain lower leaf temperatures and reduces heat stress on the crops, resulting in higher yields and quality. When two-to-four applications are sprayed on crops – generally starting at bloom, shortly after bloom, or at early fruit/nut set – In commercial usage, grower demos and third-party trials, Haven has shown to reduce sun damage and increase yields and quality for certain apple varieties, almonds, walnuts, soft berries, citrus, grapes and tomatoes. Haven also has increased yields of corn, wheat and turf grass. The Canadian label is approved for tree crops such as apples pears, cherries, plums and peaches, nuts including filberts and walnuts, fruiting vegetables such as tomato and pepper. One of the most promising uses for Haven in Canada is apples, because Haven helps to reduce bitter pit, which causes dark, ugly spots.

Both products will be available in Canada in time for the growing season through selected distributors.

How Should Your Doctor Really Be Treating Nail Fungus

SKIN-The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine® Article: How to Manage Onychomycosis

Patients with onychomycosis desire to be treated, often because of embarrassment and disfigurement… Nails also provide a function that if lost can make simple tasks such as scratching…challenging.”

— Abigail Smith

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, January 10, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nail fungus, also known as onychomycosis in the medical community, is a common skin condition. It is seen in 50% of people who suffer from a nail dystrophy. However, it can be difficult to treat due to the stubbornness of the fungus and the slow growing nature of the nail bed.

An article published today in SKIN: The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine discusses the most effective ways to treat nail fungus, including a discussion of both oral and topical medications. Abigail Smith and colleagues stress that “Patients with onychomycosis desire to be treated, often because of embarrassment and disfigurement associated with their disease. Nails also provide a function that if lost can make simple tasks such as scratching or buttoning a shirt challenging.” Indeed this condition can affect a patient’s quality of life.

The authors thoroughly answer several key questions most patients and doctors have when deciding how to treat nail fungus: 1) How do you diagnose onychomycosis? 2) What is the role of oral and topical antifungals? 3) When are oral medications really necessary? and 4) How should physicians discuss onychomycosis with patients?

After a careful review of the evidence, the authors conclude that both oral and topical antifungals have their place in the treatment algorithm. Smith et al. end by writing “Topical agents are also effective and may be used as adjunct treatment to systemic medications or as monotherapy. They are more expensive than the oral medications but offer an excellent safety profile and are generally preferred by patients.”

New Hydrocortisone Gel May Help Eczema Sufferers

SKIN-The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine® Article: A Novel Hydrocortisone-ethanol Gel Ointment for Treating Atopic Dermatitis in Children

Parents reported their preference for [hydrocortisone ethanol gel] because of its rapid efficacy and being free of prescription corticosteroids and antibiotics.”

— Dale Pearlman, M.D.

NEW YORK, NY, UNITED STATES, January 10, 2019 /EINPresswire.com/ — Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a chronic skin condition that usually presents in childhood. The patients suffer from itchy, inflamed skin that can be impossible not to scratch. The mainstay of treatment is topical steroid creams such as hydrocortisone and its stronger cousins.

A new study published today in SKIN: The Journal of Cutaneous Medicine highlights a novel formulation of hydrocortisone cream that includes ethanol gel dissolved into the solution. The ethanol gel is theorized to act as an antibacterial that can kill the Staphylococcus aureus that often colonizes and perpetuates in eczema outbreaks.

Dale Pearlman, MD, states “There is evidence that ethanol in solution with hydrocortisone does enhance delivery of the hydrocortisone across the skin… we needed to develop a new topical formulation which would prevent stinging, block possible absorption of ethanol and hydrocortisone across eczematous skin, and avoid exacerbating skin dryness.” Indeed, the study author seems to have achieved this outcome.

20 children were randomized to receive either hydrocortisone 1% cream or hydrocortisone 1% with ethanol gel. The results of the study found that the new hydrocortisone-ethanol combination was more effective than normal hydrocortisone cream in objective clinical appearance and subjective itching by patients. Pearlman writes “Parents reported their preference for [hydrocortisone ethanol gel] because of its rapid efficacy and being free of prescription corticosteroids and antibiotics.”
